Theatre Workshop at NID

Beckett, Brecht, Berkoff and Beyond

Theatre workshop, Jan 15-19, 2018, 10 am to 5 pm daily.

This workshop is designed for the students of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India.

Abstract

Interpretation of text; and translation of text into action (acting, direction and performance) — are vital concepts for actors, directors and producers — in order to effectively convert literary text into a theatrical production. This short study is for students who wish to learn about ways of interpreting dramatic text using literary criticism, narratology and linguistics; and also for those who wish to understand theoretical constructs essential to sound design, lighting and stage design.

The study program includes exercises in applied literary theory and linguistic analysis for theatre. It uncovers concepts from literary criticism, language, narratology and linguistics that are essential for directors, actors and producers; and may help greatly in understanding methodologies for converting text into a performance or a production.
